What you will learn
After successfully completing this course, you'll be able to:
- Critically examine traditional and contemporary M¨¡ori planning and policy models, frameworks and approaches.
- Review major factors and processes that underpin M¨¡ori policy and planning.
- Critically analyse key institutional arrangements and texts, such as the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840, Declaration of Independence 1835 and NZ Constitution Act 1852, as enduring M¨¡ori policy and planning texts.
- Advise on knowledge and frameworks as they apply to M¨¡ori planning and policymaking in the public sector (central, regional and local government).
- Understand tikaka M¨¡ori and the ethical dimensions of policy and planning in a democratic and market-led economy.
- Critique contemporary public policy and planning arrangements for and about M¨¡ori.
- Understand and appreciate the challenges of M¨¡ori engagement with the Nation state, in the context of significant power and resource differentials.
