Brooklyn College: College Targets Student’s Pro-Palestinian Door Signs for Removal
Cases

Case Overview
FIRE Victory closed
On November 18, 2023, campus police demanded student Morgan Patten remove two signs reading “Free Palestine” and “Zionism is fascism” from the door of her assigned art studio after receiving an anonymous complaint. Administrators cited a campus policy barring any posters or signs on doors, yet many other office doors continue to display posters, artwork, and other signs. On December 6, ݮƵAPP wrote Brooklyn College explaining that applying its posting policy in a viewpoint-discriminatory way violates students’ First Amendment rights. Brooklyn College responded on December 13, affirming that it would apply the poster policy consistently against all violations in the future.
