Case Overview

In April 2023, the College of Business Administration and Public Policy at California State University, Dominguez Hills circulated to faculty a proposed diversity, equity, and inclusion policy requiring faculty to implement DEI language and materials into their syllabi and teaching. On June 5, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø wrote CSUDH urging it to reject the policy, which would violate faculty members’ right to academic freedom and freedom of conscience. After receiving no response from CSUDH, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø wrote the university again on July 5, requesting a substantive response affirming that the university will reject the proposed policy.
