Case Overview
On April 29, 2024, Case Western Reserve University President Eric Kaler emailed faculty and students stating that “hate speech will not be tolerated,” while also expressing support for free speech in light of a pro-Palestine campus protest. ݮƵAPP wrote CWRU on May 9, reminding it that hateful and offensive speech is exactly the type of speech that the university’s own policy protects, and urging it to clarify that it will not punish even speech it considers offensive or hateful.
