Case Overview

In February 2023, Lewis-Clark State College’s administration ordered a curator to remove certain abortion-themed artwork from a college-operated art exhibit, citing state law. On March 15, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø wrote LCSC explaining that its interpretation of the law is overly broad and viewpoint discriminatory, and would restrict a wide range of constitutionally protected speech. ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø urged LCSC to comply with its binding obligation to the First Amendment by restoring the censored artwork and clarifying that it won’t suppress free expression on campus.
