On January 24, 2019, a meeting of the Portland State International Socialist Organization (ISO), was cancelled by campus police. Joey Gibson, founder of conservative group Patriot Prayer, had announced he would show up to the event, expressing hope that his presence would provoke disruption, and a student suggested that others should “Fuck up Joey Gibson.” On March 5, a similar scene played out when the university’s College Republicans chapter hosted Michael Strickland to discuss his appeal from a conviction for brandishing a firearm during a demonstration. This time, the police took no action, standing by while a protester disrupted the talk for approximately an hour, ringing a cowbell and standing in front of the projector.
